THE_FILM

The video was shot between 2017 and May 2021. The exteriors were filmed in the now disappeared forests of Cumbre Vieja in La Palma (where I am from), Highgate Cemetery in London (where Marx is buried and where the case of the Highgate Vampire happened) and the interiors were filmed in my studio where the idea of the stalactite and the lava is played with as a metaphor of that systemic revenge. Starting from the entry into the apocalyptic grotto of lava and blood, a video-essay is created in which the text/voice drifts into a layer of information about sexual and psychiatric violence, from content ranging from the rescue of the forgotten history of the Amazonas Auaritas of the island of La Palma, murdered and raped during the Spanish conquest, feminicide, to psychiatric violence related to the Terror in the Night and a statement that alludes to the biographical layers that are also deployed in the novel. The visual part of the film draws from classic and 70s horror cinema, from phantasmagoria and the Theatre of Horror and silent cinema. In it three performers including myself play four characters in a story of transformation and immortality based on resistance to violence and acceptance to communicate on more cognitive layers with the voice/text part. All of us performers have survived sexual and psychiatric violence. On a scenographic level the video itself uses the sculptures as props so that as an exhibition it was conceived to be exhibited with these elements both on and off screen.

El video fue rodado entre 2017 y mayo de 2021. Los exteriores fueron grabados en los ahora desaparecidos bosques de Cumbre Vieja en La Palma (de donde soy), Highgate Cemetery en Londres (donde está enterrado Marx y donde ocurrió el caso del Vampiro de Highgate) y los interiores fueron rodados en mi estudio donde se juega con la idea de la estalactita y la lava como la metáfora de esa venganza sistémica. Partiendo de la entreda en la gruta apocalíptica de lava y sangre se plantea un video-ensayo entre el que el texto/voz deriva en una capa de información sobre violencia sexual y psiquiátrica, desde contenidos que pasan desde el rescate de la historia olvidada de Las Amazonas Auaritas de La isla de La Palma, asesinadas y violadas durante la conquista española, el feminicidio, a la violencia psiquiátrica realacionada con el Terror en la Noche y un statement que alude a las capas biográficas que se despliegan también en la novela. La parte visual del film bebe del cine de terror clásico y de los 70s, de la fantasmagoría y el Teatro del Terror y del cine mudo. En ella tres performers incluyéndome a mí interpretan a cuatro personajes en una historia de transformación e inmortalidad en base a la resistencia a la violencia y la aceptación para comunicarse en más capas cognitivas con la parte de voz/texto. Todas las performers que participamos hemos sobrevivido a violencia sexual y psiquiátrica. A nivel escenográfico el propio video utiliza las esculturas de la obra como atrezzo de tal forma que a título expositivo fue pensado para ser ex puesto con esos elementos tanto dentro como fuera de pantalla.
